1 Minute Stress Relief : Mindfulness Based Stress Relief (MBSR)

My name is Danny Drummond … and I am a Mayo trained family practice doctor, executive coach. I have over 1500 hours of one on one coaching experience with over stressed doctors at this point and there is one thing I have learned for sure.
  

The two most important skills to prevent physician burnout and put some satisfaction back in your practice are ...
  • the ability to recognize when you are distracted and stressed in real time - as it is happening
  • and knowing a way to let the stress go quickly and easily - a simple method to release, relax and recenter yourself.
When you know how to do these two things you really can be the "Eye of the Storm" in your practice day.

"The ability to notice and release unsupportive thoughts and feelings and give the task at hand your undivided attention"

This is a skill we all should have been taught in Medical School or our Residency Programs … but somehow it never made it on the class schedule. 

Stress and work overload made it into the curriculum big time … but there was a gaping hole when it was time to teach us about stress management, stress relief and mindfulness.
