I have a confession to make. I feel I haven’t been completely authentic with you through my blogs so far.
You see, when I began teaching mindfulness and began writing blog posts about it I had really felt that I had to maintain a sort of ‘professional’ front.
I wanted to seem respectable, authoritative and knowledgeable on the topic and somehow unconsciously I assumed that to be professional I needed to hold back my natural quirkiness, playfulness and incredible passion for mindfulness
.
I feel I haven’t been there for you fully and for that I apologize.
In the beginning I actually hired a ghost-writer to help me create the articles on the website. You see, I felt I didn’t have the ability to write them properly but in the end it just wasn’t my voice.
Because it wasn’t my voice, my energy and passion for communicating my message began to wane.
Then everything changed.
Thanks to a few dear friends and students I realized that how I teach, live and who I am as a person was not at all conveyed through the website or my ‘professional’ persona.
I was playing roles. That’s not what mindful living is all about.
A Transformation Is A-foot
So here I am in the middle of the Costa Rican jungle (where I live for two months a year) and I’ve decided to completely re-brand and re-write my entire website.
In fact I have almost finished the rewrite of the website. Ahhhhhhh what a relief that was!
In the coming weeks you’ll see the unfolding of a more authentic, real and passionate presence online and I look forward to continuing to share my journey and my teachings with you.
I want to thank you for sticking with me throughout the first months of my ‘finding my voice’ and I promise you that even if I am not a ‘proper’ writer, that I will always write to you from a place authenticity and honesty.
A Valuable Lesson Learned
Here’s my take away lesson from all this: I’ve realized that to truly embody the essence of mindfulness, we need to embrace absolute authenticity in all levels of our lives.
Authenticity (says the definition) is the degree to which we are true to our own character and our spirit, despite external pressures the world seems to place on us.
We don’t need to present fronts, we don’t need to ‘play it safe’, we don’t need to stifle our individuality to try and fit in.
We can be ourselves in all our glorious humanness with the quirks and all of the funny bits.
And that’s what I intend to do.
I hope my own valuable lesson inspires you to embrace more authenticity (and by default, mindfulness) in your own life today.
Loads of love
Melli
ps. One of my favourite changes on the website is the re-write of the ‘what is mindfulness’ page. Take a look and tell me what you think!
